Exercise and fitness are part of looking good, feeling good and being healthy. Keeping fit will help give your teenager the confidence to feel good about their body, the way that they look, and their abilities; something every teenager could do with. Yet the teenage years are the time when many people give up exercise and sport in favor of more solitary or hanging out types of activity, frantic dancing at parties notwithstanding.
Girls in particular often give up sport, never to start again. It's often not cool to exercise. Girls should be encouraged to keep up exercise they enjoy because it helps prevent conditions like osteoporosis or thinning of the bones that are more common in women. As with many teenager issues, there are no simple solutions. However, she is more likely to follow your example than do what you say. Even if you don't see the results in the short term, she will eventually learn to respect your lifestyle. She may choose a different way of doing things herself, but some of your upbringing will show through in the end.
A health history questionnaire and a parents consent form must be completed before participating in this fitness program. A teen with a chronic health condition or disability should NOT be excluded from fitness activity. Some activities may have to be modified or adapted, or some may be too risky depending on your teens condition. Consult your teenagers doctor about what activities are safe.
